I concur on the Danny Meyer front. I typically like to support independent restaurants/chefs and seek out uniqueness...but... have never been disappointed at Union Square Cafe, Gramercy Tavern, Bar Room at Modern, Manhatta (even loved Marta, RIP). I have also eaten at the bar solo at every one of them and generally had very gracious bartenders who seem very accustomed to people dining at the bar.
I had the most decadent solo lunch at Manhatta the week before I moved away from NYC (before I came back) — and I cannot recommend the experience more. The staff wrote me a card bidding me farewell to the city and sent me off filled with a burger and two Manhattans — pure elation.
Other random favorite solo lunche around the citys: KazuNori, Frenchette, Le Crocodile.
If only Manhatta wasn’t so far downtown…but makes for a good crawl to have a cocktail and take in the architecture of the room/atrium at Beekman then land at Manhatta

Love this—those little touches turn a good meal into something memorable. Le Croc for a solo lunch sounds absolutely divine.
The mimosas taste like sunshine in a glass

I’m in CDMX with Ethan and Artie. Lunch is dinner here in most every way! Long and delicious!
